Jim Buckley is an accomplished Fortune 50 corporate executive, board director, and operator. As the head of Spencer Stuart’s global technology practice, he brings extensive insight into boardrooms, the C-suite, and the shifting demands leaders face under intense technological disruption. At Merryck & Co, he works with senior executives across multiple industries.
In addition to his work with Merryck & Co, Buckley has also served on numerous boards, including Microsoft Higher Education Scholar, the American Society for Training and Development (ASTD) Technology Editorial Board, Georgetown University’s McDonaugh School of Business, Stanford Advisory Council for Libraries and Information Resources, and the Babcock Graduate School of Management Board of Visitors at Wake Forest University.
As president of Apple Americas, a $7B business, Buckley was responsible for more than 70% of global revenues where he led all sales, marketing, channel, customer service and support activities in North and South America. During his 11 years with Apple Computer, he held executive management positions including senior vice president of Apple Computer, eventually leading to his role as president of Apple Americas. In addition, Buckley was vice president and general manager for Apple USA’s higher education division, overseeing all sales, marketing, customer support and service operations to 3,500 colleges and universities throughout the United States.
After Apple, Buckley joined the public company, CBT Group plc, a global leader in the publishing, development, and distribution of computer-based training software for IT professionals. As chairman, president, and CEO, he successfully led the company’s post-IPO transition.
Most recently, Buckley applied his executive experience to his role with Spencer Stuart, one of the world’s leading global executive search and leadership consulting firms. He was a member of the firm’s North American Board & CEO Practice, as well as head of the Global Technology, Communications, and Media Practice for four years. During his tenure, Buckley led more than 400 C-suite executive and 50 board director searches with publicly-traded companies.
Earlier in Buckley’s career, he worked for Exxon Office Systems and Xerox, directing large account programs and strategies.
Buckley holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from Iona College and completed graduate work in marketing at both Iona and Pace Universities in New York. He has also served on several nonprofit boards, including Make-A-Wish Foundation of Connecticut, Chicago Association of Commerce & Industry, Boys and Girls Clubs of Chicago and the Special Wish Foundation in Chicago. He is married with three grown children.
