Giam is an experienced senior leader, having spent three terms as CEO of Deloitte Australia, then Global CEO of the engineering consulting firm Aurecon. He has a proven record of growing organisations, both organically and through M & A. Giam is widely recognised for his leadership in the areas of innovation, culture change, and both digital and business model disruption.

APPROACH

As an accomplished global executive, Giam believes he is able to add value in supporting leaders of complex companies that are challenged with their growth strategies or are facing issues around changing existing business models. His own leadership experiences have built his deep understanding of how to lead strategically and identify effective routes to ensure that desired outcomes are achieved. He is passionate about equality in all its forms, and has been recognised through a number of industry awards for diversity and inclusion.

CAREER HISTORY

Starting as a qualified accountant and auditor in South Africa, and subsequently in the US, Giam emigrated to Australia in 1997. In addition to his role as head of Deloitte Australia for 12 years, during which time the firm became one of over 650 partners, Giam’s stellar career with Deloitte included membership at different times of their Global Board and the Global Executive Committee. Not only did he secure significant growth during testing circumstances, profits outstripped revenue growth each and every year. Giam was also the Global Executive Sponsor for Deloitte’s initiative to determine how digital disruption would be either an opportunity or a threat, and how business models would need to be changed.

Giam was CEO of Aurecon between 2015 and 2019, during which time it was named Large Firm of the Year in 2017 by Consult Australia and, in the same year, was ranked #5 in the Australian Financial Review’s Most Innovative Companies. Aurecon operates in 10 countries with a team of over 5,500 engineers and revenues in excess of $1 billion. Giam remains a Non-Executive Director as well as Chair of the Audit and Risk Committee.

Giam is a strong advocate of continuous learning and, over the years, has invested considerable amounts of his time on his own personal development through many courses at a range of international business schools.

PERSONAL

Giam is married and has three adult sons. He enjoys golf, saltwater fly fishing, boating and travel. He is also a jazz fan.
