Andy Homer

Mentor Governance

Back to Team

Andy spent the last 25 years of his career as a CEO of four different companies in the insurance sector including Towergate, Folgate, Axa Insurance UK and what is now Aviva UK General Insurance. Towergate became the largest independent insurance intermediary in Europe with the completion of 150 acquisitions over a 10 year period. The Company won many accolades including the Sunday Times Fast Track Management Team of the Year and several entrepreneurial prizes.

Andy believes that too many organisations spend a disproportionate amount of energy on negative aspects of performance and risk avoidance which generates in turn unhelpful bureaucracy. He believes performance improvement for individuals and organisations is rooted in understanding the positive nature of both; build on strengths, stretch leaders, make the journey exciting and with meaning. He subscribes to a working environment of complete openness and challenge built on a high level of trust with honest but constructive feedback. He also believes, from his own experience, that each of us has the potential to deliver more and better and achieve more happiness in the process.

As well as his CEO experience Andy is also an experienced Non-Executive Director and chairs a leading insurance software business, an energy utility broker, the retail division of a regulated insurance broker and he is an NXD of a Brazilian insurance consolidator based in Sao Paulo. He has been a professional mentor for five years and is current chair of Merryck & Co. He has been Chairman of the Motor Insurers Bureau, a statutory body that pays compensation to the victim of uninsured drivers. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Insurance Institute, by examination, and has served as the national President of the CII. He was Chairman of the British Insurance Brokers Association from 2011 to 2013.

Andy is married with two grown up sons and lives in Surrey and Spain. He enjoys running and swimming, collecting fine wines, playing golf, and watching West Bromwich Albion (but from behind, not on, the settee). He is an alumnus of Wharton Business School, Philadelphia, and has an MA (Coaching & Mentoring) and a Professional Certificate in Advanced Study In Coaching Supervision from Oxford Brookes University.
