Paul Block is an innovative and accomplished CEO, board director, and investment professional. His successful track record includes leading the global development and growth of Revlon, one of the world’s most storied consumer brands. Later, Block spearheaded the U.S. financial services industry’s expansion into China. As a Merryck mentor, he helps Fortune 200 executives in the pharmaceutical, technology, manufacturing, health and life insurance industries in the U.S. and Asia.
In addition to his work at Merryck & Co, Block serves on the board of CCL Industries (TSE:CCL), the largest label company in the world. He is currently chairman and CEO of Proteus Capital Associates, an investment banking firm that develops and assists in the realization of investments in China.
Block has extensive domestic and international leadership experience in implementing private equity transactions and strategy development. He has also worked with several of the world’s largest financial institutions, including the People’s Bank of China, as well as retailers, insurance companies, private equity groups and consumer product manufacturers on matters from global strategic development to improving senior executive productivity.
Block was also the president and CEO of Brasil Beauté, an investor and operating company committed to the identification of high growth opportunities in the emerging Brazilian consumer market. He was a partner at Behrman Capital, a New York based private equity firm, where he held sector responsibility for consumer products, packaging and contract manufacturing while serving as a member of the board of directors of several Behrman portfolio companies. He has served as executive consultant to the American International Group (AIG) with responsibility for financial services and direct investment product origination and development. In this capacity, he originated and participated in raising numerous emerging market direct investment funds valued at more than $2B.
As chairman, president and CEO of Revlon International, Block was a leading figure in the global cosmetics and toiletries industry for 17 years. He managed the company’s finance, marketing, sales and manufacturing, producing more than 70% of Revlon’s worldwide income. In addition to growing revenue and profit in 127 existing markets, he structured new joint ventures and strategic alliances in China, India, and Eastern Europe.
In addition, Block has been an advisor to Macy’s, Ford Models, the CP Group of Thailand, Wellpoint Health Insurance, China International Trust and Investment Corporation and the Clinton Global Initiative. He also served as co-chair of the New York Police Department (NYPD) Recruiting Task Force following 9/11.
Block holds a bachelor of arts degree from Syracuse University, where he was previously a member of the Board of Advisors of the Whitman School of Management.
