Ian Grice

Ian brings to the Merryck & Co. Faculty a wealth of experience and knowledge in the support services sector and of delivering growth organically and via acquisition. He has strong hands-on experience of the complete business system and a record of delivering excellent outcomes in major multinational businesses. Most recently in 2008, as Group Chief Executive, he led the successful sale of Alfred McAlpine to Carillion for £570m. In 1995, he joined the main board at Alfred McAlpine and became CEO in 2003. He led its transformation from being an underperforming construction and house-building company to a profitable support services organisation with nine acquisitions, creating a business with sustainable future growth, which became a FTSE 250 company. Previously his impressive career took him through Laing, French Kier and on to Mowlem. His experience included the construction of power stations, bridges, oil rigs and buildings, and also encompassed the privatisation of the Property Services Agency from the British Government and the purchase of a company in eastern Germany from the Treuhand. Ian has a rare combination of strategic and operational capabilities. He is entrepreneurial and results orientated. A good communicator and listener, he is able to build and motivate senior teams to create a winning outcome. Ian is married to Patricia and they have 2 children. His interests include golf, travel, opera and country sports.
