No
longer motivated by personally making money, this
client was motivated now by success and achievement.
His organisation was ranked 8th in a global league
table of major players and he wanted to achieve #1
or #2 status within 5 years. By introducing the concept
of an organisational purpose (beyond simply making
money) the mentor was able to engage the client in
a cultural
transformation process
that was driven by the values and shared vision of
its key revenue generators that will catapult the
business into the top 3 players within 4 years - as
a result of harnessing the potential within the ranks
of the company and recruiting new talent from outside
who were attracted by the new purpose.
With
an interesting career to date in both finance and
marketing in restructurings and turnarounds the client
was appointed as head of the UK and Head of EMEA two
years later. Moving
from a function head to the head of a team
meant many new areas where he previously had no expertise
or exposure. The increase in complexity dealing with
11 countries' cultures, languages, tax regimes, legal
and accounting issues was made so much easier by being
able to discuss the landscape with someone who had
had experience at that level and created a safe place
for the client to grow quickly with a greater internal
and external, horizontal and vertical perspective.
The benefits to the business were a 12 x increase
in revenues in 4 years, no involuntary loss of key
talent (from his peers who had also applied for his
job) and the highest scores on the group wide engagement
survey.
